A clean start for a healthy flock

In 2017, Jens Kronemeyer and his family decided to start a laying hen farm. Since then, he has been working with Pluriton, focusing on an optimal barn climate and healthy hens.

One of the key aspects of Jens’ farm is hygiene. After the old flock is removed, the barn undergoes a thorough cleaning. This process takes four to five weeks, starting with a professional cleaning company, followed by a final inspection and cleaning by the family. As a result, they have been free of red mites for almost eight years.

A strong start

The start of a new flock is crucial. Feed and water systems are checked, and ventilation is carefully adjusted. Together with family and friends, the new flock is placed, with Pluriton providing a transition protocol to ensure a smooth start.

The current white laying hens are 65 weeks old and performing exceptionally well with a laying percentage of 94.5%. Their feathers are in excellent condition, and the dry, loose litter supports natural behaviors such as dust bathing. The farm operates with a balanced pressure ventilation system, preventing cold air drafts and maintaining a stable climate, resulting in better litter quality and healthier hens.

With this approach, Jens looks to the future with confidence, continuing to invest in the welfare and performance of his hens.

A clean start is the foundation for success – almost eight years without red mites thanks to strict hygiene.
